Our story
A step back
in time.
The first customers walked through our door in 1923. A hundred-some years later, the Central is still the oldest cafe in Middleboro — and stepping inside still feels like stepping out of the present.
Not much of that is accidental. The dining room hums the way it always has, and on any given night it fills with people who’ve been coming here since they were kids — plenty of them now sliding into the booths with kids of their own.
That’s the real tradition of the place. Not the recipes — though we stand by those — but the fact that this has always been a hometown cafe in the truest sense…
…where everyone knows your name.

The centerpiece
A bar worth
the trip to Boston.
More than seventy years ago, the father of former owner Angelo Doscoulias went to Boston and bought a handsome mahogany bar for his son’s new establishment. It arrived with a chestnut rail, and it never left — the anchor of the room through every decade since.
Pull up a stool and run a hand down the rail. All around it, the booths wear the patina of age — and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

The front door
An Irish pub
kind of welcome.
In 1997 we remodeled the exterior and gave the Central an Irish pub–style entrance. It fits what’s behind it: the easy informality of a neighborhood bar, where nobody stands on ceremony and the only dress code is “hungry.”
Settle in for a full dinner or just lean on the bar for a while — either way, you won’t stay a stranger for long.

The main event
Pizza for
the whole team.
Our famous cheese pizza has been the staple of post-event celebrations for as long as anyone can remember — little league teams piling into the booths with their spectators close behind, replaying the big inning over a hot slice.
The tradition stays easy to keep, too: every Tuesday and Wednesday, single and combination-topping pizzas are half price.
From the taps
The best draft
selection in town.
For those who don’t take “pizza and beer” lightly.
It’s a bold claim, and we stand behind it. Pull up a stool at the mahogany bar and do your own research.
